Volunteer Spotlight: Pedro Amorim

Volunteers are at the heart of every Merrymount event, and Pedro was no exception during the 2025 Golf Classic. Helping the event run smoothly, he contributed to the success of the tournament and experienced firsthand what it means to be part of the Merrymount community. We spoke with Pedro about what he learned through volunteering and the impact of being involved, even for just a single day.

What inspired you to get involved with Merrymount? How did you first hear of us?

I first heard of Merrymount through the Pillar Non-Profit website. I was really touched by Merrymount's cause of helping families and children in crisis and transitions. I truly believe that family is the foundation of any society, and everybody should take every opportunity to help anyone in need.

What’s something you’ve learned through volunteering?

I learned that we don't have to wait for a paid job to make a difference in our community or market. Volunteering is a chance for me to give my contribution not only with my skills, but also with my heart.

Is there a moment from your volunteer work that’s really stuck with you?

I was really touched when every time I wanted to share an opinion or point of view about something, I was truly heard by the Merrymount team. It's something simple, but that made a lot of difference in my day.

What did being part of the Merrymount community for the day mean to you?

Being part of the Merrymount community made me feel part of something bigger, a cause that is stronger when you join a group of people who truly believe in it.

What was your favourite part of event day?

I really enjoyed the closing remarks and the results announcement, because everyone was together in the same place, and there was a ceremonial and protocol approach. Also, I really enjoyed helping out after the event by packing up and transporting everything back to Merrymount
