Donor Spotlight: Poplar Hill & District Lions Club
Thank you to Earl from the Poplar Hill & District Lions Club for dropping off more than 90 handcrafted wooden cars for Merrymount’s programs. Alongside fellow club member Brian, Earl continues building these special toys in honour of the late Earl Crisp, carrying forward a meaningful tradition that has brought joy to countless children over the years.
Merrymount staff Holly (pictured) uses the wooden cars in our Understanding ADHD program. She explains that ADHD brains are like race cars: they can move very quickly and are incredibly strong, but often have “bicycle brakes,” making it more difficult to slow down and focus. Through this program, children and parents learn practical strategies to strengthen those “bicycle brakes” for greater success. Children also have the opportunity to decorate and paint their wooden cars, creating keepsakes they can take home and treasure.
Earl Crisp received the Ailene Wittstein Legacy Award posthumously at Merrymount’s 150th Annual General Meeting in June. This award recognizes a Merrymount volunteer for their outstanding contribution and lasting impact. A dedicated volunteer, Earl handcrafted wooden toys for Merrymount for many years, bringing comfort, creativity, and joy to countless children and families. His thoughtful contributions were a true labour of love, made possible in part through the generous support of the Poplar Hill & District Lions Club, who helped him continue this meaningful work.
We are deeply grateful to Earl, Brian, and the Poplar Hill & District Lions Club for carrying this legacy forward and supporting Merrymount’s children and families in such a meaningful way.
