Supervised Access

London/Middlesex: 519 858 9905
St.Thomas/Elgin: 519 637 1667
Woodstock/Oxford: 519 533 1379

A parent comes to the Access Centre and requests supervised visits as they have not seen their child(ren) in four years. The court has ordered four months of supervised visits for the parent to have an opportunity to get re-introduced to the child(ren).

The Supervised Access Program assists families  who are going through separation and divorce and having difficulties over custody and access arrangements. The program provides a supportive, safe and neutral environment for visits and exchanges.

Families are referred to the program for various reasons including but not limited to:

  • Unresolved conflict between parents
  • Concerns with parenting ability
  • Extended absence of a non-custodial parent
  • History of drug abuse and/or alcohol abuse
  • Safety Concerns due to a history of violence in the family and/or abuse
  • Concerns of possible abduction

Although many families are court ordered, self referrals are welcome.

Supervised Visits provide an opportunity for non-custodial parents to spend time with their children while custody issues are being resolved.  Visits take place on site and are fully supervised by staff to ensure that children are safe and comfortable.  Staff encourage positive parent/child interaction and will intervene if necessary.

Supervised Exchanges provide non-confrontational transfer of children between parents for an off-site visit.  Parents do not come in contact with one another when the child is picked up and returned.  Staff communicate child related information between parents such as medication, health or behavioural concerns.
